Solution

Let the measured weight of the object in the mountain be $\rm W_{m}$ and that in the Terai be $\rm W_{t}$. Then, the following inequality holds: $\rm W_{m} \lt W_{t}$.

Reason

Weight is a function of mass and acceleration due to gravity, i.e., $\rm W = mg$. For the same object (constant mass), the weight of an object depends upon the value of acceleration due to gravity (g) at the place where the weight is being measured. We know that the value of ‘g’ decreases as we move higher and higher than the surface of the earth. So, the value of ‘g’ is less in the mountain than in the Terai. Consequently, the weight of the object is less in the mountain than in the Terai.
