Solution
In the feather and coin experiment, initially a coin and feather were kept in the tube. The tube when inverted, it was observed that the coin fell much more quickly than the feather. Then, when the tube was evacuated using a vacuum pump and again inverted, it was observed that both the coin and feather fell together.
Hence, the feather and coin experiment concluded that:
- Gravitational force acts equally on all objects.
- Air resistance slows the fall of lighter objects with larger surface areas.
- All bodies irrespective of their masses experience same acceleration due to gravity i.e. acceleration due to gravity is independent of the mass of the falling body.
